Knives, cash found in suspect's car in D.C. mansion murders, police say

WASHINGTON - Police recovered two knives, money orders and cash from the car of the man arrested in connection with the murder of four people in a D.C. mansion, reports CBS affiliate WUSA.

The items were found after police executed a search warrant on 34-year-old Daron Wint's Chevy Cruz.

Police also found cash, money orders and a Samsung Galaxy phone in a box truck that police said Wint was "following and acting in concert with" at the time of his arrest, the station reported.

The warrants reportedly do not say if there was evidence connecting the knives to the murders.

Wint is accused of holding Savvas, Amy and Phillip Savopoulos and their housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, hostage in the Savopoulos' Northwest D.C. home in mid-May, killing them, and setting fire to the house.

Police also searched the car of Savvas Savopoulos' assistant who delivered $40,000 to the home while the four people were being held there, according to police.

Police say the killers tortured 10-year-old Phillip Savopoulos to get money out of his parents.

Investigators were looking for large amounts of currency, money wrappers, manila envelopes, banking documents, and forensic or physical evidence linking the assistant to the murders, search warrants reveal.
