Cops: Florida teen admits he accidentally shot, killed his 15-year-old friend

BROWNSVILLE, Fla. - A 14-year-old was arrested Wednesday after police say he admitted to playing with a gun before accidentally shooting and killing his 15-year-old friend, reports CBS Miami.

The victim of the shooting, Jakyri Fleurimar, was shot in the chest.

"I've been told there may have been some gunplay. It just doesn't make sense at this point," said Cora Stevens, Fleurimar's step-grandmother.

According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect was at his grandparents' home with two other friends when he found the gun.

The teen told police the shooting was an accident. CBS News is not naming the teen suspect because of his young age.

Fleurimar was a Macarthur High School student who had reportedly just transferred to Doral Academy to play football for the new school year.

"He's funny, very smart. Nice and loving. He don't do anything to anyone," said Erika Uetsey, the victim's sister.

"One of the best that we just lost. He was one of the kids we all want to raise," said Stevens.

The grandparents of the teen, who own the gun which was allegedly used in the fatal shooting, will reportedly not face charges because police say the gun was in a holster, in a drawer under clothing.

The suspect will make his first court appearance in juvenile court Thursday afternoon.
