Cops: Fingernail links woman to boyfriend's murder

NEW YORK -- Police say a Queens woman is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend and then trying to conceal the death by setting his body on fire, after the woman's fingernail was found on the victim's body, reports CBS New York.

The body of 43-year-old Shawn McWhorter, of Brooklyn, was found shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday behind a house in the Astoria neighborhood. The body was engulfed in flames and fire personnel were called to the scene, the station reports.

Police say 46-year-old Dawn Mcintosh killed McWhorter during an argument. She then allegedly enlisted her son's help to get rid of the body but when they couldn't move him police say they doused him in lighter fluid and set him on fire.

When police questioned Mcintosh, they say they noticed she was missing a fingernail, and later found a fingernail on the body, the station reports. Police told the station she initially said she hadn't seen her boyfriend that day, but that she later confessed to killing the man over infidelity and money, according to CBS New York.

Mcintosh was charged with murder, weapon possession and tampering with physical evidence.

Police say her son, 21-year-old Donte Watkins, of Queens was charged with tampering with physical evidence.
