Cops: Utah mom, 2 daughters die in murder-suicide
SYRACUSE, Utah – Northern Utah police and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office are looking into a murder-suicide involving a mother and her two daughters, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.
Officers arrived on the scene in Syracuse on Tuesday night after reports of gunfire and found the bodies of 32-year-old Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 13-year-old Kenadee Oliva and seven-year-old Isabella Oliva.
Syracuse Police Officer Erin Behm said, “At this point, we know it is a murder-suicide. There are no suspects.”
Ramsdell-Oliva and her daughters had only recently moved into the Syracuse home, living there for about three months with Kyler’s then-fiancé, according to Behm. Police had been at the home one night prior to the incident, after Kyler and her fiancé broke up.
“The fiancé had been over there for his property, and they called the police to have us over there so nothing did happen,” Behm said.
Kenadee and Bella Oliva had only recently enrolled in the school system in the city about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City. Kenadee was attending Syracuse Junior High; her little sister was a first-grader at Syracuse Elementary. Davis School District spokesperson Chris Williams said that grief counselers were available to students on Wednesday.
“She’s in a better place,” said Madi Blackburn, Kenadee’s classmate. “But I think a lot of us are missing her.”
Blackburn described her friend as happy and free-spirited. She left balloons and a stuffed animal in front of the Ramsdell-Oliva home as a tribute to Kenadee and her little sister.
Neighbor Ivy Ruelan was in disbelief. Just on Saturday, his son attended a mermaid-themed party for Bella.
“It’s just heartbreaking to find out last night that she’s gone,” Ruelan said. “Really sweet girl, just quiet, probably because they were new here.”
Neighbors also recalled seeing a moving truck in front of the house and a distraught man in the driveway.
“My prayers go out to this family,” Ruelan said.
