Cops: Couple stole $1,200 worth of teeth whitener

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Authorities in Pennsylvania are looking for a couple who allegedly stole $1,200 worth of teeth whitener from a Target store in Hempfield Township, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani told the station the female suspect was caught on surveillance video putting the teeth whitening equipment in her purse, while the male suspect acted as a lookout.

According to Limani, a loss prevention officer approached the couple as they went to leave the store, and the male suspect attacked him.

Following the altercation, which reportedly left the loss prevention officer with minor injuries, the male and female suspects reportedly fled in a silver four-door car.

Limani says the teeth whitening kits that were stolen are "top of the line" and could be in the $50 range. He says they will likely be sold online or in consignment shops.

Furthermore, Limani says this isn't the first time teeth-whitening kits have been pilfered.

"This is the third report that I've read over in the past six months," he says.

This isn't the first that 48 Hours' Crimesider has heard of teeth whitening thefts, either. In June, a man was accused of stealing nearly $1,000 in teeth whitening strips from a Target in Exton, Pa.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police.
