Coming up on Face the Nation: Civil war continues in Iraq; GOP elects new leadership

(CBS News) -- This Sunday on Face the Nation, we'll take a look at the escalating crisis in Iraq. President Obama announced on Thursday that he would send 300 military advisers to the country to gather intelligence and help President Nouri al-Maliki's government train its armed forces. We'll also turn to Congress and see what is ahead for the new Republican leadership, as Rep. Eric Cantor steps aside and Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise take the reins.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R.-Fla., and Rep. Mike Rogers, R.-Mich. will give us their take on the President's policy in Iraq. Obama now faces a high-wire act in the aftermath of his 2011 troop withdrawal, with many members of Congress now calling for greater intervention in the region and some in his own party saying the US should stay out of the conflict. We'll also discuss the next chapter for the Republican party as the midterm elections draw closer and the tea party shows no signs of letting up. Can the House GOP conference work out their internal differences under the new leadership of Majority Leader McCarthy and Whip Scalise?

From Iraq, Clarissa Ward will bring us up to speed on the relentless advance of the ISIS forces and the growing sectarian divide. As the conflict heats up and Iraqis flee from the violence, a potential humanitarian disaster awaits. For the U.S., that possibility only means more tough decisions. To discuss the national security repercussions of the crisis, CBS News' Senior Security Correspondent Michael Morell, who is a former deputy director of the CIA, will also join us.
