Comcast hit with major TV outage

Comcast says it has mostly restored service after the cable provider experienced an outage Monday in many major cities across the U.S.

Spokeswoman Jenni Moyer says engineers continue to work on a temporary network interruption. She apologized for any inconvenience.

The tracking site Downdetector.com reports that the outage started around 6:30 a.m. Eastern time and affected much of the East Coast from Washington, D.C., to Boston. Other affected areas included Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Houston, Denver and San Francisco. Repairs were made by early afternoon.

Comcast, based in Philadelphia, says the outage primarily affected TV service. Customers lost some of their channels but kept some service. The cause of the outage and how many subscribers it affected were unknown.

"We have repaired the temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers continue to work on this issue and almost all services have already been restored," the company said on its website.

The outage caused frustration for some Comcast customers, who used the company's social media channels to complain about difficulty reaching service representatives.
