Senator Udall's son charged with drug possession, trespass

DENVER, Colo. – U.S. Sen. Mark Udall's son was arrested on drug and trespassing charges Wednesday, CBS Denver reports.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s arrest log states that 26-year-old Jedediah Lee Fox-Udall was arrested by deputies responding to a report of a person breaking into cars in Eldorado Springs, Colo. He was charged with four counts of first-degree criminal trespass and possession of the drug ketamine, both felonies.

Ketamine was developed as an anesthetic and is similar to PCP, and illicit users snort or swallow it as a powder, according to drug prevention website Drugfree.org.

“Prior to deputy’s arrival, City of Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space Rangers contacted a male matching the description of the suspect,” said Heidi Prentup, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Witnesses identified Fox-Udall as the suspect, reports CBS Denver.

“While searching the suspect, deputies found drug paraphernalia. The suspect told deputies he had used heroin 48 hours prior to their contact with him,” said Prentup.

Sen. Mark Udall, D-CO, and wife Maggie released a statement following the arrest: "Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son's arrest. We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family."

Fox-Udall is due in court on Feb. 20.
