Man shoots, kills alleged robber who responded to Craigslist ad

LITTLETON, Colo. - Authorities say a man shot and killed one of two would-be robbers who responded to a Craigslist ad, reports CBS Denver.

Deputies say the two men arrived at the home in Littleton, Colo. just after 9 a.m. on Sunday, after arranging to meet the homeowner, who was trying to sell an unspecified item. The men allegedly produced a firearm, tied up the homeowner and took the keys to his Ford SUV, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office

The two men then split up. One man attempted to flee in the man's SUV and the other in the gold or yellow Mustang that they arrived in.

The homeowner told police that he managed to get himself free and grabbed a handgun. He went outside to confront the suspects and shot the man who was driving away in his SUV, which ended up in a neighbor's yard a few houses down the road.

The suspect was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he died.

Neighbor Aaron Andersen heard the gunshots.

"It shows it can happen anywhere. You can think you live in a real comfortable neighborhood, but it can definitely happen anywhere," Andersen said. "It sounded like a round of about five gunshots."

The homeowner and his wife, who was also home at the time, weren't hurt and were interviewed by police. It's not clear if the homeowner will be charged for the shooting.

Deputies are now searching for the gold or yellow 1990s Mustang, possibly being driven by a Hispanic man in his 40s.

The car could have bullet holes, investigators said.
