Car crash victim confesses murder to airlift crew, report says

CARBONDALE, Colo. -- A Colorado man being airlifted to a hospital after a car crash allegedly admitted to the helicopter crew that he killed his wife, reports CBS Denver.

The suspect was in the air, en route between two hospitals after the Monday morning accident, when he allegedly confessed. He had driven his Toyota 4Runner into an empty cattle truck in Carbondale, Colo.

The flight crew reported his confession to Carbondale police, who found the man's wife, dead from apparent stab wounds, in the apartment the couple shared.

Carbondale police are not yet releasing the identity of the man or woman.

Police told CBS Denver they expect to file an arrest warrant for the husband on murder charges later this week.

The man is under protective custody at the hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., but is expected to recover from his injuries.

Carbondale's last reported homicide occurred in April 2003.
