Chris Rock will host the 2016 Oscars
Chris Rock is your next Oscars host.
Amid major speculation, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday that the 50-year-old comedian will emcee next year's awards gala.
This won't be Rock's first time hosting the Academy Awards. He hosted the 2005 Oscars, one of the most-watched ceremonies of the past decade. Since his last time at the mic, Ellen DeGeneres hosted twice (2007, 2014). So did Jon Stewart (2006, 2008). Other celebrity emcees included Hugh Jackman (2009), Billy Crystal (2012), Seth MacFarlane (2013) and Neil Patrick Harris (2015).
"I'm so glad to be hosting the Oscars," said Rock. "It's great to be back."
"Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry," the producers of the Oscars said in a statement. "Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian -- he's done it all. He's going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!"
The 2016 Academy Awards ceremony will be held Feb. 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
