Charlie Rose presses Obama's chief of staff on Democrats' election loss
WASHINGTON -- Democrats around the country are still debating how Hillary Clinton and the party lost the White House to President-elect Donald Trump.
In an interview Monday, “CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose posed the question to Denis McDonough, President Obama’s chief of staff.
“I think people feel right now that it’s that basic bargain that you play by the rules, you work hard you’re going to get a shot, they feel that the odds, that the deck is stacked against them. And I think that’s what informed the voting in the fall,” McDonough said.
Rose pressed McDonough on why voters felt that way, given that President Obama has bully pulpit of the presidency.
“We, we are not here to, only to communicate with American people, we’re here to change things,” he replied.
“We feel we made a lot of changes. Nevertheless, the American people still don’t feel that.”
