Channing Tatum's "X-Men" spinoff gets a release date

Looks like Channing Tatum is joining the mutant race.

The "22 Jump Street" actor will be playing Gambit in the next "X-Men" film, which is due out fall 2016. The character is a professional thief and gambler from Louisiana, with powers that include charging things with kinetic energy and turning objects into explosives.

Gambit was also captured onscreen by Taylor Kitsch in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
