CBS to attempt Guinness World Record with "World 'CSI' Day"

CBS has declared March 4 "World 'CSI' Day" and will attempt that day to break a Guinness World Record for the "Largest Ever TV Drama Simulcast," the network announced Thursday.

The event is being held to mark the 15th anniversary of the "CSI" franchise and the series premiere of "CSI: Cyber," starring newly-minted Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette.

The current record for the largest TV drama simulcast was achieved in November 2013 by the special 50th anniversary episode of "Doctor Who," which was broadcast in 98 countries across six continents.

On "World 'CSI' Day," CBS hopes to break that record by airing the "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" episode "Kitty" in more than 150 countries at 7 p.m. ET. It will also be streamed in the U.S. on CBS.com from 4 p.m. PT to midnight.

That episode, which first aired in April 2014, also serves as the planted spin-off for "CSI: Cyber," the next generation and fourth series in the franchise.

"CSI: Cyber" will also officially debut that same night, airing its series premiere March 4 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. It also stars James Van Der Beek, Peter MacNicol, Shad Moss (aka Bow Wow), Hayley Kiyoko and Charley Koontz.
