CBS News Poll: Who will be an April Fools' prankster?

Playing pranks is not for everyone, at least not on this April Fools' Day. According to the latest CBS News "Sunday Morning" Pulse Poll, only 25 percent of Americans say they are planning to pull some sort of prank on April 1, but three in four say they will not.

That's quite a change from four years ago, where 33 percent of those responding to a similar poll said yes, they were going to play an April Fools' Day joke on someone.

But when asked whether they have ever played an April Fools' Day prank in the past, 61 percent fessed up that they had.

Also according to the poll, Americans are less likely to play a prank as they get older: 32 percent of those under age 45 will play a prank on someone, but the percentage of tricksters drops to 17 percent ages 55-64, and 18 percent ages 65+.

This poll was conducted by telephone from March 19-23, 2014 among 1,016 adults nationwide. Data collection was conducted on behalf of CBS News by Social Science Research Solutions of Media, Pa. Phone numbers were dialed from samples of both standard land-line and cell phones. The error due to sampling for results based on the entire sample could be plus or minus three percentage points. The error for subgroups may be higher. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish. This poll release conforms to the Standards of Disclosure of the National Council on Public Polls.
