Accused burglar charged in homeowner's heart attack death

WELLS, MAINE -- An accused burglar has been charged with felony murder more than a year after a 62-year-old woman died of a heart attack during an attempted burglary at her Maine home.

The Portland Press Herald reports 24-year-old Carlton Young was indicted Tuesday in the March 2015 death of Connie Loucks. The Sanford man has been held at the York County Jail since his arrest last year.

He was initially accused of being part of a burglary ring in southern Maine. Authorities say he and three other people broke into her home when she wasn't there, according to CBS affiliate WGME.

They returned the following day to break in again, when Loucks was there, and she had a heart attack and died.

It's unclear why authorities waited to charge Young with felony murder. Police say the three others allegedly involved could face additional charges, according to the station.

Defense attorney Amy Fairfield says her client maintains his innocence in Loucks' death.
