Donald Trump and the gender gap problem with women voters
In the most recent CBS News poll, Hillary Clinton led Donald Trump among female voters by 27 points.
If you Google "Clinton," the first thing that pops up is a campaign ad offering an "Official Hillary for America Woman Card" for those who sign up online. It's a play off a now-infamous Trump comment.
"Well, I think the only card she has is the woman's card!" Trump said of Clinton after he won five primaries in the Northeast.
Right now, Clinton is holding a good hand, leading Trump among white women, for instance, by 11 points.
The last Democrat to win white women in a presidential election was her husband in 1996. In 2012, they went for Republican Mitt Romney by 14 points.
Trump insists he can make up ground because he knows what women want.
"Women want strong military. They want to know that they're secure in our nation," he said. "Women want women's health issues taken care of, and Hillary is not going to do it like me."
As she works to cement a sisterhood, Clinton has taken to repeatedly accusing Trump of "demeaning women."
She invoked gender politics again in a phone interview with the L.A. Times Thursday.
"When he ... questioned my qualifications to be president ... I knew that the subtext was questioning women's qualifications in general," Clinton said.
CBS News learned Thursday that some of Clinton's top aides, including reportedly her longtime confidant Huma Abedin, have now been interviewed by the FBI about Clinton's use of a private email server.
Clinton herself has not been interviewed yet but says she will cooperate if asked.
