Calif. man arrested in attempted fatal stabbing of ex-girlfriend
VENTURA, Calif. -- Police say a Southern California man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to fatally stab his former girlfriend, who was found injured along a Ventura County road last month, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Edward Quintero Becerra, 26, of Oxnard, is being held on a $1 million bond at the pretrial detention facility, police said Monday, according to the station.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on March 25, a couple found an injured woman while heading north on State Route 33, officials from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department told CBS Los Angeles. Upon helping her, the couple reportedly found out the woman had been stabbed multiple times.
Paramedics were called and the woman was then transported to the hospital with serious stab wounds to her face, neck and body. Officials say one month later she remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Deputies say that Becerra fled in the victim's truck with their 2-year-old child shortly after he attacked his ex-girlfriend.
After an Amber Alert was issued, officials arrested the suspect without incident at his home on suspicion of attempted murder. The child was found unharmed, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The motive for the alleged attack remains under investigation.
