Caitlyn Jenner's mother praises her courage

Caitlyn Jenner has made her mother proud yet again.

Speaking to People, Esther Jenner, 89, said the day Caitlyn, formerly Bruce, was revealed on the cover of Vanity Fair "was a wonderful day."

"It takes so much courage to do what she's doing," she told the magazine.

"My mom is...extraordinarily open-minded," Caitlyn Jenner, 65, said in the Vanity Fair story, adding that she recalls her mother expressing the sense that their relationship might be much stronger than it was with Bruce.

Esther, who was featured in Jenner's Diane Sawyer's interview back in April, also recalled what it was like seeing her for the first time.

"When I first saw [Caitlyn] all I wanted to do was give her a big hug. It was such new information," Esther said, adding. "I love her. And she's happy. That's all that matters."

As for adjusting to a new name, and new pronouns, for person she's called a son for 65 years -- "It takes some time getting used to. I've called [Caitlyn] Bruce since the day he was born. It's going to take some time, but I will adjust."
