Caitlyn Jenner: Why I wasn't always a supporter of same-sex marriage

Caitlyn Jenner opens up about politics, dating and same-sex marriage in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, set to air Tuesday.

On the topic of same-sex marriage, the 65-year-old reality TV star, who has said she's a Republican, told DeGeneres that she hasn't always been a supporter.

"I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago or 20 years ago, whatever it was, when the whole gay marriage issue [first] came up, at first I was not for it," she said. "I thought, I'm a traditionalist. I'm older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it's always been between a man and a woman. And I'm thinking, I don't quite get it."

Jenner added that her perspective on the issue has started to change, explaining that "as time has gone on, I think, like a lot of people on this issue have really changed you're thinking here to I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness. You know, that's not my job. OK. If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."

When DeGeneres suggested that Jenner still sounded "a little not on board with" same-sex marriage, Jenner replied, "No, I'm on board. It is going to be pretty much the law of the land. I'm OK with that."

As for dating, the former Olympian said she's not ready to tackle romance just yet -- she's still getting used to her new life as a woman.

Jenner has been documenting her transformation on the E! series, "I Am Cait."
