2-day Trenton standoff ends; bystander dead

TRENTON, N.J. -- A police standoff in New Jersey's capital city that started when authorities tried to serve a warrant is over after a suspect surrendered to authorities, reports CBS Philly.

Police say 35-year-old Tyleeb Reese had been holed up in the Trenton home since Wednesday morning after exchanging gunfire with officers. Police say Reese started shooting when the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a warrant.

A bystander, 56-year-old Robert Powell Jr., was shot and killed outside the home. It's not clear how Powell was shot.

"He was standing by and was a victim of a senseless shooting," Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson told CBS Philly.

Three Mercer County sheriff's officers sustained minor injuries and were treated at a hospital and released.

Reese, who was shot in the leg, came out of the home and was arrested without further incident around 5 p.m. Thursday, the station reports.

Neighbor Pilot Rosemon told the station he was woken up by five gunshots, and went outside to see a man dead in the street.

"Come to find out, that was a bystander, he was caught in the crossfire," Rosemon said. "The shooter was a friend of mine who went to school with me."
