Bush campaign books ad time in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina
Jeb Bush's presidential campaign is reserving television ad time in January and February in New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina ahead of all three of the state's key early caucus and primary elections.
The campaign is placing a $4.6 million buy in New Hampshire, a $2.2 million buy in South Carolina and a $1 million buy in Iowa, a source close to the campaign told CBS News.
The total does not include planned digital and radio spending.
News of the advertising push comes as the former Florida governor has struggled to catch on in polls, particularly in New Hampshire - a state crucial to his presidential chances.
Kristy Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Bush campaign, confirmed the ad buys and said he has plenty of funding going forward.
"As voters in early states and beyond get to know Jeb Bush's record and vision, he is building support," Campbell said. "Our campaign will have the resources needed to be competitive throughout the calendar, ensuring Governor Bush is the nominee."
These reservations are the second ad buy that the Bush campaign has made since entering the race in June. The campaign made an initial $500k buy for the key primary state of New Hampshire in September. A 30 second ad titled "I've delivered" which highlighted Bush's record as governor of Florida ran from September 9th until September 29th on New Hampshire and Boston television. See the ad here:
Bush's super PAC Right to Rise has spent a little over $21 million dollarson television advertising since the race began. Its ads have been on the air in Iowa and New Hampshire since September 15th with buys of $6 million and $11.4 million. In South Carolina, the super PAC purchased $3.9 million of time for ads beginning on September 22nd. The ads in all three states run until the end of the year.
