Building collapse injures at least 3 in Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- A four-story building collapsed on a busy street in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the structure, which was vacant, according to the New York Fire Dept. But a bicyclist and two other people were injured by falling debris, reports CBS New York.
The extent of the injuries was not immediately known. Subway service beneath the avenue where the collapse took place has been suspended.
The building sits on a heavily trafficked street in Brooklyn and collapsed about 2:30 p.m., shortly after a heavy rainfall.
In March, two people were killed and 22 others were injured when a gas explosion destroyed three buildingsin Manhattan's East Village. Preliminary evidence suggested that a gas explosion amid plumbing and gas work inside the building was to blame.
That blast happened a little over a year after a gas explosion in a building in East Harlem killed eight people and injured about 50.
