Bryan Cranston joins the "Power Rangers" movie

From the Emmy-winning "Breaking Bad" to an Oscar nomination for "Trumbo" to ... "Power Rangers"? Bryan Cranston is certainly making some interesting career choices.

Cranston has joined the cast for next year's big-screen reboot of the popular kids' TV show as Zordon, a giant floating head in a tube that advises the group of teens who band together to fight evil, the filmmakers announced on Twitter Tuesday.

Cranston joins a cast that already includes Elizabeth Banks, R.J. Cyler ("Me and Earl and the Dying Girl") and David Denman ("The Office"). With production already underway, photos of Banks in costume as villainess Rita Repulsa caught the internet's attention in April.

Cranston himself seemed especially excited about the news, tweeting out the announcement while displaying an unexpected amount of "Power Rangers" knowledge.

"Power Rangers" is due in theaters March 24, 2017.
