No Broadway in Brittany Snow's future
"Pitch Perfect" and "Hairspray" star Brittany Snow is definitely keeping busy. While she's slated to start shooting "Pitch Perfect 3" later this year, she also has a pair of films coming out -- "Late Bloomer" in the summer and "Bushwick" in the fall. And she's starting work as a producer as well. But until then, she can be seen in a new ad pitching Lipton Sparking Iced Tea -- a beverage, she tells CBS News, that goes really well with tequila.
You have a talent for portraying such quirky, comedic characters. Where does that come from?
Oh god, I don't know, I guess it's just -- thank you -- but I guess I've never really cared too much about going for it and making myself look stupid, and maybe that is a talent. But I think creating characters that are just, like, heightened or being really silly is something I've always enjoyed doing, so I'm glad they kind of like that idea for the commercials. And also I'm making fun of myself in a self-deprecating way.
So do you have a Lipton favorite flavor?
I do. The raspberry is my favorite flavor, and I drink it because it's so easy. And also it's really good with tequila sometimes. (laughs) But yeah, it's just like a really nice drink and I'm really glad I get to promote something that I enjoy drinking as well, so that works out well.
I'm going to have to try that with tequila.
Yeah!
With "Hairspray" the "Pitch Perfect" movies so prominent on your resume, do you continue to look for chances to blend music or comedy? Or are you focusing on other types of projects?
I always love doing musicals and I love doing comedy, and I think that's the great thing about acting. Luckily in my career I get to do a whole bunch of different things. It is really nice that there are people wanting me to sing and dance and try to be funny in movies, but I do enjoy more dramatic roles as well. But I'm really glad there are more musicals getting made. I think that there's definitely a need for it.
What about Broadway?
I definitely will never sing on Broadway. I would love to be on Broadway in a play, but musical theater on Broadway scares the hell out of me. I'm really bad at singing in front of other people. I can sing in a group, I can sing alone and I can sing with my friends, but singing on stage just ... no.
Ok, you have to be comfortable. I just talked to Skylar Astin the other day, we were joking about plans for Pitch Perfect 3, was curious if anybody's been sending helpful notes to Elizabeth about possible storylines for different characters and who could be doing what...
No one knows anything, I'm sure Skylar already told you as well, but we are just completely clueless. We know that we're making it, we know that probably we'll all be back but we have no idea what's going on. I guess, we're all finding out together.
What would you like to see happen to your character in "Pitch Perfect 3," which is currently being written?
In the second movie Chloe's so uptight and not willing to let go of anything, and she's always been a free spirit and kind of a wild child in a way. So I feel like by the third one, she's probably gone the total opposite of letting go and just becomes this hippie that lives at Coachella all weekend and is just smoking pot and being a total hippie in the woods, which would be kind of funny, but I don't know. I have no idea what is in store for her.
You've also been busy as a producer.
Yeah, I'm producing a few different things and also I'm producing a movie that I'm going to be starring in. I'm also producing a web series and I started a production company with my best friend a couple months ago. So yeah, just trying to get my hands in all sorts of things, which has been really fun.
