Boy, 5, missing after tot brother abandoned in dumpster
OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha Police say they are searching for a missing five-year-old boy after his 11-month old brother was found abandoned in a dumpster and his mother was found slain. Thursday afternoon, police canceled an Amber Alert after locating a vehicle they were searching for in relation to the case, but the search for the boy continued, reported CBS affiliate KMTV.
Jesus I. Marinero, 45, and her two sons, Josue Ramirez-Marinero, 5, and Angel Ramirez-Marinero, 11 months, were reported missing from their La Vista home around 4 a.m. Wednesday, police say. Wednesday evening, police responded to an Omaha apartment complex about five miles away after a resident said they discovered a child in a dumpster.
The child was later determined to be 11-month-old Angel, police say. He was "alert and in fair condition," clad only in a diaper, according to police.
About two hours later, investigators discovered the body of a woman near 4th & Cedar in Omaha. Property owners there tell CBS affiliate KMTV they discovered the woman's body in a ravine and called police.
Around 4 p.m. Thursday, officials confirmed that the body is that of Jesus I. Marinero, reports the station.
Police had earlier released a vehicle description for a 2000 silver Jeep Cherokee Laredo, saying that the child could be traveling in it with an unknown suspect. Police found it abandoned on Arbor Street in Omaha after a tipster called in around 3 p.m. Thursday, reports the station.
The vehicle reportedly contained two empty car seats, but the child wasn't inside.
Officials say they canceled the Amber Alert after they located the vehicle because the alert system requires a vehicle description to be activated, reports the station. However, the search for the child continues.
Five-year-old Josue Ramirez-Marinero remains missing, and an extensive search is underway. Police say he may have been abducted.
Police say he has short black hair and was last seen wearing a gray shirt and gray sweatpants.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Josue Ramirez-Marinero is asked to call 911 or contact the Omaha Police Department at 402-444-5656 immediately.
