Body of missing Wisconsin doctor found

EPHRAIM, Wis. - The body of a Wisconsin doctor who had been missing for three weeks has been found, authorities said Thursday, according to CBS affiliate WFRV.

A K-9 search team found the body of 63-year-old Jeffrey Whiteside in the town of Liberty Grove Wednesday afternoon near some trees in an uninhabited area, police said.

According to authorities, a .22 caliber gun was found near his body. The investigation is ongoing and foul play hasn't been ruled out, according to Post-Crescent Media.

Whiteside, of Grand Chute, was last seen leaving the Ephraim Yacht Harbor Marina on June 29 after authorities said he had a disagreement with his wife, the paper reported.

The Fox Valley physician was vacationing with his family in Ephraim at the time of his disappearance. The body was reportedly found just east of Ephraim.

Whiteside was reported missing by his family on July 1. The paper reports Whiteside's wife returned to Grand Chute from Ephraim several hours after Whiteside was last seen - leaving her husband without a car when he was expected to be at work the next morning.

Earlier this week, the paper reported Whiteside's wife had hired a lawyer and that the lawyer denied a request by authorities to search the family home in Grand Chute. Prior to that, authorities had reportedly already searched the family's condo and boat in Ephraim and said nothing out of the ordinary was found.
