Body found in search for missing pregnant Texas woman

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A search group found a body in a creek in Harris County, Texas, Thursday morning during a search for a missing pregnant woman, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

The body was found by searchers with Texas Equusearch in Cypress Creek.

An autopsy will likely be needed to determine if the victim is 26-year-old Melissa Sowders, according to the station.

Sowders vanished Dec. 26 after dropping her boyfriend, Jason Sanford, off at work at 6:15 a.m.

Deputies found her white Honda Accord Friday night on Interstate 45.

Texas Equusearch had been searching the area along Cypress Creek since Saturday. The search group would only say they had good reason to be at the location, which is near Interstate 45.

Sowders’ boyfriend said Sowders was supposed to go meet her ex-husband and their youngest daughter at the McDonald’s on the day she disappeared.

Detectives said Sowders’ ex-husband has been questioned but they have not named him as a suspect, according to the station.

Anyone with information in connection with the case is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at (713) 967-5810.
