Body believed to be abducted Detroit boy, 13, found in field

DETROIT -- Police say the body of a young boy has been found in a Detroit field, two days after they began searching for a 13-year-old who was abducted by an armed man.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the medical examiner will determine if it's the body of Deontae Mitchell. But at the same news conference Thursday, he offered his prayers to the boy's family.

Craig called it a "horrific crime."

The lead suspect in the kidnapping, Gregory Walker, has been arrested in Toledo, Ohio. Police announced Thursday they are searching for two more suspects -- Ernest Coleman, 30, and Roy Portis, 51. Craig wouldn't detail their suspected involvement in the crime but called for them to turn themselves in.

Mitchell's cousin told police they were riding bikes Tuesday night when they saw an apparently intoxicated man drop money while urinating outside a market. The cousin said Mitchell picked up the money and they rode away.

Police say surveillance video shows Mitchell being pursued by Walker. According to police, Walker grabbed Mitchell's arm and "forced him into the rear passenger side" of a black Chevrolet Impala, reports CBS Detroit. Walker was also armed with a revolver, according to police.

Mitchell had been the subject of an Amber Alert.

Craid said he wouldn't detail the boy's cause of death and said he's not sure whether Walker knew the child.

"Again, we're talking about a defenseless child and an adult male with gun," Craig said. "Once again, another coward preying on children -- and that needs to stop."
