"Blade Runner" sequel gets a release date
The long-planned follow-up to Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi cult hit "Blade Runner" finally has a release date, with Warner Bros. setting the film for a Jan. 12, 2018 debut. Warner Bros. will release the film in North America, with Sony handling distribution overseas.
Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as detective Rick Deckard, with Ryan Gosling joining him and Denis Villenueve ("Sicario") directing. Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, will serve as executive producer.
The story will reportedly pick up several decades after the original film, based on Philip K. Dick's short story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Production is expected to begin in July.
