Bill Murray gives "Ghostbusters 3" female casting suggestions

Bill Murray says he knows who to call for the next "Ghostbusters" sequel.

The "Grand Budapest Hotel" actor has revealed which actresses he would like to see in a new, potentially all-female, line-up of the paranormal exterminators.

At the top of Murray's list is his "St. Vincent" co-star, Melissa McCarthy, as well as one of her "Bridesmaids" castmates.

"Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny --- God, she's funny," Murray recently told the Toronto Star.

The 63-year-old Oscar-nominated actor also had a few others in mind.

"I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there," he said.

Murray starred in the original 1984 "Ghostbusters" alongside Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis.

The film took in over $291 million at the global box office and was followed by a 1989 sequel, which saw a return of the main cast.

Murray has said he doesn't want to be involved in a third installment though, which could be directed by "Bridesmaids" filmmaker Paul Feig. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been rumored for roles in the all-female cast, but McCarthy says no one has approached her yet about the project.

"I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it," McCarthy revealed to the Star. "Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them."

She realizes that a new cast would certainly have some big shoes to fill.

"Oh, my God, that's daunting. That's taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all," McCarthy said.

Murray and McCarthy have been in Toronto, Canada, over the last several days for the Toronto Film Festival premiere of "St. Vincent," which opens in U.S. theaters on Oct. 24.

The Toronto Film Festival runs until Sept. 14.
