Bill Bratton tells Trump campaign NYPD won't be used as a prop
The NYPD is not a prop -- that was New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton's response to the Trump campaign.
The head of Donald Trump's security, Keith Schiller, called Bratton on Friday morning to see if the presumptive Republican nominee could come by the Midtown North precinct that afternoon for a roll call -- a day after a sniper in Dallas had shot and killed five police officers and wounded five more and two civilians.
Bratton declined the request, saying that the NYPD would not be used as a prop. NYPD Assistant Commissioner J. Peter Donald confirmed the call to CBS News.
Trump's campaign denied making the request. Spokeswoman Hope Hicks told the Daily News in a statement, "Mr. Trump and the campaign did not reach out with a request to address roll call."
Bratton also told reporters, according to Politico, that there was "an inquiry from Senator Clinton about setting up a call to be briefed on what's going on here in New York."
Bratton said both candidates were welcome to come to the NYPD for a briefing if they so desired, according to Donald.
