Baseball star Jose Reyes arrested for alleged assault on wife
MAUI, Hawaii -- Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested on Halloween after allegedly assaulting his wife in their Maui hotel room, reports CBS affiliate KGMB.
Reyes allegedly shoved his wife, grabbed her throat and pushed her into a sliding glass balcony door, during an argument in their room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, the station reports.
Security called police and Reyes was arrested for abuse of a family or household member. He was released on bail.
Reyes' wife told police she had injuries to her thigh, neck, and wrist. She was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Reyes, 32, has previously played for the New York Mets, Miami Marlins, and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the National League batting champion in 2011 and is the New York Mets' all-time leader in triples and stolen bases.
The Colorado Rockies said in a statement posted to Twitter that the organization is gathering "information and will address this matter appropriately, in accordance with Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy."
"We were extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes," the team said.
