Baltimore parents arrested in death of 9-day-old son

BALTIMORE -- A newborn's parents were arrested after police allege the 9-day-old baby suffered cruel and violent treatment that resulted in death, reports CBS Baltimore.

On Oct. 20, police responded to a Baltimore home after parents Matthew and Anne Kirsch told them they found their son unresponsive. The infant was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Both parents were later arrested and charged after the boy showed signs of dehydration, malnutrition and blunt force trauma, according to charging documents reviewed by the station.

"Both the mother and father in this case are charged with murder, child abuse, neglect and various assault charges," says Det. Jeremy Silbert of the Baltimore Police Department.

Police say the baby was not born in a hospital and both suspects have allegedly admitted to being heroin addicts, according to CBS Baltimore.

The parents are reportedly being held at Baltimore City Central Booking.
