Authorities: 11-year-old in Mass. accidentally shoots boy in face

ABINGTON, Mass. -- Authorities say an 11-year-old boy has been shot in the face with a handgun by another boy inside a Massachusetts home.

The Enterprise reported it happened just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in Abington, about 20 miles southeast of Boston.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says the victim was taken to a hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition. His name has not been released.

Cruz said both boys involved in the incident were 11 years old, CBS Boston reported.

“We believe he’s doing okay right now, but any gun shot wound is dangerous and anything can happen,” said Cruz. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to that little boy’s safety. That’s No. 1 right now.”

Authorities believe the shooting was an accident.

Cruz said he is “not aware” if any adults were in the home at the time of the shooting.

No further information was immediately available.
