Auction of Stephen Colbert's desk helps raise $800K for schools

Money from the auction of Stephen Colbert's desk and set from "The Colbert Report" will help thousands of school kids in his home state of South Carolina.

The comedian and incoming "Late Show" host announced on Thursday that, along with donations from Share Fair Nation and ScanSource, $800,000 has been raised to fund every classroom project South Carolina teachers listed on the DonorsChoose.org site.

"Enjoy your learning, South Carolina," Colbert said at a conference in New York on Thursday announcing the funding.

DonorsChoose.org is a crowdfunding nonprofit where teachers list projects and donors can support them. The money will help pay for nearly 1,000 projects from more than 800 teachers at more than 375 South Carolina schools.

Colbert, a native of Charleston, is a member of the DonorsChoose.org Board of Directors. The set and his desk were auctioned after "The Colbert Report" ended last December.
