At least 11 injured in Philadelphia food truck explosion
PHILADELPHIA - A propane tank on a food truck exploded Tuesday in north Philadelphia, injuring at least 11 people, including two who suffered serious burns, authorities said.
Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said a 27-year-old woman and teenage girl were in critical condition Tuesday night with serious burns on a substantial portion of their bodies.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. outside an auto body shop in the Feltonville neighborhood.
"There was an explosion and flames at the same time. And it literally just rocked me," a witness told CBS Philadelphia.
"As I turned the corner and saw one of the occupants of that vehicle, apparently blown from, thrown, on fire, from the back of the vehicle, burning, smoldering. It's not a pretty scene," the witness said.
Small said surveillance video shows a huge fireball that reaches to the other side of the street and that the propane tank that exploded landed in a backyard about 150 feet away.
He said four other people were hospitalized in stable condition and at least five people were treated and released.
