Armed carjacking in Detroit caught on tape

DETROIT - Surveillance video shows an armed carjacker holding up a man at a Detroit gas station early Wednesday morning, stealing the victim's car.

CBS Detroit reports that the incident happened around 1 a.m. at a Valero gas station.

In gas station surveillance video released by police, the male victim can be seen walking to his vehicle from the station's store. As the man was about to open his car door, he suddenly dropped a bag of merchandise and put his hands in the air.

Seconds later the suspect, dressed in all black, ran into the camera frame and struck the victim with what appeared to be a gun. The victim then ran toward the front of the store, before throwing his car keys on the ground and fleeing inside.

The suspect grabbed the keys and sped off. Police said no shots were fired and no one was injured.

The vehicle has since been recovered in Highland Park, police told CBS Detroit, but no arrest has been made.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit police at 313-267-4600.
