Ark. couple facing rape, murder charges in death of son, 6
BELLA VISTA, Ark. -- Police say that a couple was arrested Monday after the police department was notified that a 6-year-old boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance on March 29 -- where he later died, reports CBS affiliate KFSM.
An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office ruled his death as a homicide, according to a police release. Mauricio Alejandro Torres, 45, and Cathy Lynn Torres, 43, were arrested and are now facing charges of capital murder, rape and first-degree battery, according to police.
Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Nathan Smith told the station that he will ask that the couple be held in jail without bond. It is too early to discuss whether he will seek the death penalty, according to KFSM.
Their other children, ages 6 and 8, also lived at the home, officials said.
Neither suspect has any criminal history, according to the station.
