Applebee's manager found fatally shot outside restaurant

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - Authorities are investigating after a manager at a Georgia Applebee's was found shot to death in his car in the restaurant's parking lot over the weekend, reports CBS Atlanta.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Gregory Smith of College Park.

Fayetteville Police Lt. Mike Whitlow said Smith's girlfriend called authorities at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday to report that she found Smith dead in his vehicle. Police say she went to search for him after he didn't come home, reports the station.

Whitlow says authorities found a gunshot hole in the driver's side of Smith's vehicle and shell casings in the parking lot, indicating "there were other people involved," according to the station.

Authorities were canvassing nearby businesses in an effort to find surveillance video. They said they were also hoping to speak with anyone who was in the area of the Applebee's between 2 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Fayetteville is about 20 miles south of Atlanta.

Applebee's is offering a reward for information leading to a conviction in the case, according to the Associated Press.
