Another pothole problem: Stolen traffic cones in Chicago
CHICAGO - Potholes have caused too many headaches - and flat tires - to count in this winter of disconent in places such as Chicago.
But now, add another pothole-related hassle. According to CBS Chicago, someone's been stealing those orange traffic cones used to warn motorists about the crater-sized potholes up ahead.
Alderman Scott Waguespack of the 32nd district was placing the traffic cones as a public service to drivers.But the station says his good-will gesture is being undone. In one spot, two of three cones were removed, Waguespack says.
"This just causes serious problems for anybody hitting it (the pothole)," he says.
At the same time, he told the station the city's response to an epidemic of potholes has been disappointing.
"I don't think you can blame it all on weather. It was really bad, but we have to have a system in place that addresses these worst problem areas."
The missing traffic cones cost about $8 apiece.
The alderman is hoping whoever's been stealing them might just be putting them in even deeper holes.
