Andy Cohen on release of new diary, "Superficial"

Andy Cohen started his career in TV in 1989 as an intern at CBS News and spent 10 years here.

He went on to become the brains behind “The Real Housewives” franchise and the host of his own late night show, “Watch What Happens Live.” He’s also a New York Times bestselling author, now out with his third book, “Superficial: More Adventures From the Andy Cohen Diaries.”

“I was inspired by ‘The Andy Warhol Diaries,’ which came out after he died. And after I turned in my last diary, [‘The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year’], I kept going, and I kept going for two years,” Cohen said Monday on “CBS This Morning.” “And I just said, ‘I’m going to put everything in this, and I’ll edit it out later.’ And I didn’t wind up editing a lot of things out, which now I’m a little nervous about.”

From chronicling embarrassing moments to interactions with friends and even times of loneliness, Cohen writes: “My title is both dead on and yet somewhat misleading, because I think I get more personal in this book than the last, deeper into my feelings about myself and others.”

“It’s not Tolstoy, but it’s a page turner. And it’s well-written, I think. And it’s very funny,” Cohen said.

Asked whether he’s going to join Kelly Ripa as host of “Live with Kelly,” Cohen said, “I don’t think that’s going to happen because it’s ‘Live with Andy’ at 11 every night on Bravo.”

“I love anything with Kelly. She makes everyone better,” Cohen said. “But I like doing my own show. It couldn’t be a greater incarnation of me, this show.”
