Amazon greenlights "Jack Ryan" series starring John Krasinski
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is making the jump to the small screen with a new 10-episode series for Amazon, with John Krasinski stepping into the storied role.
The former "Office" star -- who flexed his military drama muscles in last year's "13 Hours: the Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" -- will be the fifth actor to inhabit the role, following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.
The modernized series is being billed as a "reinvention" of the classic story, following Ryan as an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment.
"We're excited to add the 'Jack Ryan' global franchise to our robust originals pipeline," Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. "Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content."
Much like the upcoming Woody Allen series, "Crisis in Six Scenes," the 10-episode "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" bypassed the usual pilot screening process that series usually undergo for Amazon's streaming video service, moving ahead instead to a full series order.
The series is being produced by Paramount TV and Skydance.
