Almost 90K pounds of Sam's Choice beef recalled

A Minnesota company is recalling approximately 90,000 pounds of beef products sold under Walmart's Sam's Choice brand, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Huisken Meat Company announced that it is pulling the Sam's Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion patties from shelves because of possible contamination with extraneous wood materials.

The wood originated with an ingredient in the patties and was discovered during production, according to the statement.

There have been no confirmed reports of anyone being injured or sickened, but the company said anyone concerned about it should contact a health care provider.

The patties are sold in two-pound boxes containing six pieces of "Sam's Choice Black Angus Beef Patties with 19% Vidalia Onion." The products subject to recall were shipped to stores nationwide and bear the establishment number "EST. 394A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The items were produced on various dates between Nov. 19, 2015, and Dec. 9, 2015.

Consumers who purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should either throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased.
