All the Hollywood icons named in Madonna's "Vogue" have now died

If news of Lauren Bacall's death Tuesday has you mourning an era that feels long gone, here's something else to wrap your head around -- her passing means all the Hollywood stars name-checked in Madonna's "Vogue" are now dead.

As Slate notes (and another Twitter user pointed out), the 16 icons from Hollywood's golden age that the pop star references in her hit are no longer with us.

In the spoken-word portion of "Vogue," Madonna says, "Greta Garbo, and Monroe/Deitrich and DiMaggio/Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean/On the cover of a magazine/Grace Kelly, Harlow, Jean/Picture of a beauty queen/Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, dance on air/They had style, they had grace/Rita Hayworth gave good face/Lauren, Katherine, Lana too/Bette Davis, we love you."

Some of them -- like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean -- died long before the song (and its famous black-and-white music video) came out in 1990. Bacall's death on Aug. 12 came more than two decades later.
