"All My Children" actor Matthew Cowles dies at 69

Actor Matthew Cowles, best known for his role as Billy Clyde Tuggle on "All My Children," has died at the age of 69.

The husband of "The Good Wife" actress Christine Baranski died Thursday, according to his manager, Tsu Tsu Stanton, who shared the news Friday via Twitter.

Jean Passanante, a former writer for "All My Children," also tweeted condolences, remembering Cowles as "a sweet man and a uniquely talented actor."

A cause of death was not immediately available, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cowles' career in film and television spanned more than four decades. He earned two Daytime Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Tuggle on "All My Children" and also appeared in the web-only version of the soap when it debuted last year, THR notes.

His other acting credits include the films "Shutter Island," "Slap Shot" and "The Juror," as well as appearances on TV shows like "Oz," "Law & Order," "Kojak," "Life on Mars" and "The Bold and the Beautiful."

Cowles is survived by Baranski, his wife of 30 years, and their two daughters.
