Search on for girl, 10, missing from N.M. home

RIO RANCHO, N.M. -- Police in New Mexico are searching for a missing 10-year-old girl who was last seen at her suburban Albuquerque home Wednesday night.

Alexandra Greenwall was last seen when her mother put her to bed Wednesday night around 10 p.m., reports CBS affiliate KRQE. When she woke up, the child was gone.

The station reports it appears the girl apparently changed out of her pajamas during the night, stuffed clothes in a backpack and left through the family's back door.

The mother told the station the girl may have run away because she was mad because she had been punished. The mother told the station she believes Alexandra may be wandering the neighborhood or on the way to her father's house in Madrid, New Mexico, about 60 miles away from her home in Rio Rancho.

The FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are now involved in the case.

Greenwall's mother Katherine Allen told the station she was "horrified and just at a loss."

"I have no idea what to think I just want to hope for the best and hope that she's hiding somewhere and that she's okay and I just hope to god that nobody has taken her," Allen said.

Greenwall has freckles and long dark hair. She may be wearing pink tennis shoes.
