Iowa man found not guilty in wife's bathroom death

DECORAH, Iowa -- Jurors have found a former Boone man not guilty in the death of his wife.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports jurors on Wednesday found Alexander Fazzino not guilty. They began deliberations Tuesday afternoon after a Winneshiek County trial that lasted more than two weeks.

Fazzino was charged with first-degree murder in the January 2012 death of Emily Fazzino. Authorities found her on the bathroom floor in the couple's home.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors argued Emily Fazzino died by strangulation, emphasizing a deep tissue injury in her neck.

Defense lawyers argued she accidentally drowned in a bathtub, possibly induced by a seizure or withdrawal from prescription painkillers.

Emily Fazzino's family owns the Fareway grocery store chain.
