Third small plane crash in 2 weeks in Alaska kills at least one person
At least one of three people on a small plane that crashed in Alaska's Prince William Sound Tuesday was killed, the Coast Guard said. The other two had "general pains" and were airlifted to a hospital.
It was the third small plane crash in Alaska in two weeks.
The Coast Guard said four good Samaritan vessels responded to a 2 p.m. report of a downed Cessna A185F Skywagon in the sound near Cascade Bay, some 20 miles southwest of Valdez, Alaska. The vessels recovered the three people who were on the plane and had entered the water.
The Coast Guard and Alaska Air National Guard also went to the scene.
It was unclear who owned and operated the aircraft.
The cause of the crash was under investigation, CBS Anchorage affiliate KTVA reports.
Tuesday's crash came a day after a plane crash in Metlakatla, Alaska killed both people who were on board. That aircraft was operated by Taquan Air, which suspended operations in the wake of the crash. Last week, a midair collision of sightseeing planes near Ketchikan, Alaska left six people dead. Taquan was the operator of one of those plane. The other was operated by Mountain Air Service.
