Al Qaeda magazine released near 9/11 anniversary causes concern

The latest issue of a magazine published by al Qaeda raised concerns among law enforcement officials Wednesday as it renewed calls for the assassinations of prominent figures and lone wolf terror attacks.

Officials told CBS News they are troubled by the timing of the release of INSPIRE magazine just days before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which they refer to as "the blessed 9/11 operation."

The terror group also says in the magazine that it is seeking to recruit African Americans saying they are "against the oppression and injustices directed towards you."

The 45-page issue, entitled "Assassination Operations," calls for Muslims in the west to join the jihad caravan.

The English-language INSPIRE, produced by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, aims at encouraging its followers to commit terrorist acts in the United States.
